College Profile

It was a landmark day in the history of Pir Panjal region when Government Degree College Rajouri was declared open on 6th of June 1981 by Jammu and Kashmir Government. Initially the college started functioning in DIET building at Jawhar Nagar, Rajouri with Arts subjects only and shifted to the present campus in 1982. The college is co-educational institution affiliated with University of Jammu and offers UG and PG courses. It is located at a small beautiful plateau at village Kheora, three kilometers to the north of Rajouri town. The college campus gives a picturesque look in the backdrop of snow clad Pir-Panjal Mountains of the Middle Himalayas in the far North. A monument Dhani Dhar Fort lies just to the east, Darhal tawi to the west while to its south lies the historic town Rajouri.


The college is situated at 33.05° N latitude and 74.30° E longitude. Its campus is spread over almost 100 kanals of land. The college provides excellent infrastructure facilities such as Main Arts Block, Physical Sciences Block, Bio-Sciences Block, Multipurpose Hall, PG Urdu Block, PG Computer Science Block, Library Block, Sports Block, Staff Quarters, Canteen Block etc. Besides, there are two Boys Hostels and two Girls Hostels. The college is NAAC accredited in its first cycle with B++ grade, 2nd cycle with A grade and third cycle with B grade. It will definitely improve its grading in its 4th cycle of accreditation due in 2025. Its alumni are holding key positions in different departments. The college has a rich library having a collection of over 50,000 books. In addition to the University sub-office, the college has three Distance Education Study Centres for those students who cannot afford to seek regular admission. These study centres are Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, Directorate of Distance Education (DDE), University of Jammu and Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad.
